How to Protect Your Hair in the Winter

For those of us who live in areas with multiple seasons, air drying your hair in the winter months can be tricky since you don’t want to leave home stepping out into the cold weather with wet or damp hair.

My go-to in these colder months: BLOW DRY / DIFFUSE + HEAT PROTECT

What I realized is that although air drying is ideal since heat damage from styling is a very real thing, and I noticed, the healthier your hair is, the better my curls look. Healthy hair, really and truly does mean beautiful hair.

That being said, I’ve found a work around to maintain the health of my hair while using heat tools which you can use for stunning results also!

Prep Hair:

At the base of a beautiful “DOO” is always a good shampoo and conditioner. Right now I have been shampoo and conditioning my hair with RE.STORE and SMOOTH.AGAIN.RINSE by KEVIN.MURPHY and notice how soft and manageable my hair feels after using this combination.

Use a Microfiber Towel:

So I basically dry my hair as much as possible before blow drying or diffusing with heat, to keep frizz at by and protect those tresses from damage towels can bring I opt for a microfiber towel. I have been using Louvelle Luxury Wear to dry my hair and it truly dries your hair in half the time as a towel, plus I noticed a difference in how nice and defined my curls stay with less frizz than a normal towel.

Blow Dry or Diffuse with Heat Protectant:

Now onto blow drying or diffusing, before you apply any heat tool to your hair I HIGHLY recommend you use some sort of heat protectant. Heat tools like blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons can cause real damage to your hair when you style without any sort of protection. Right now I am using the new HEATED.DEFENSE by love KEVIN.MURPHY. What I like about this product is it protects your hair against up to 450 degrees which is huge for me.

Sleep with a Silk Pillowcase:

Last and final step is protect your hair while sleeping. A lot of times, I style my hair before I go to bed to save time in the morning. What I noticed is sleeping with a silk or satin pillowcase can greatly reduce the amount of frizz on your hair, keep your style looking its best and also protect your hair from the dry out which cotton pillowcases cause.

That’s it for now, I hope you enjoyed my hair care tips for protecting your tresses during those winter months.
